WATCH: Ronald Acuña Jr. only needs one pitch to put the Braves in front

The MVP candidate bolsters his case with his 38th homer of the season

It's been a rough go for the Braves of late. After clinching the division on Wednesday in Philadelphia, the Braves have suffered a series of ugly defeats, with the last two games being especially uncompetitive. But looking to start things off on a different note tonight was Ronald Acuña Jr., and he did it by doing that thing he does so well - hit leadoff bombs.

He got a first-pitch fastball middle-in from Phillies' starter Cristopher Sánchez and turned on it, launching it almost 400 feet out to left for his 38th tater of the year and his 99th RBI. Ronnie is now two homers away from a 40/40 season, with the added bonus of it actually being a 40/65 season and counting.

The Braves got a couple of other runners on afterward, but Sánchez pitched out of it. The Braves lead 1-0 after one for the second consecutive night, but let's hope Spencer Strider makes this lead stand up a little better than last night's lead did.
