WATCH: Sean Murphy hits a home run with a BROKEN BAT

The Braves catcher is starting to come out of his slump, and sacrificed his bat to do it

The Atlanta Braves haven't been getting great performances from their catchers since the All-Star Break.

Entering today, Sean Murphy was batting .163/.316/.272, with a wRC+ of only 71. Travis d'Arnaud was even worse, with a .183/,220/.325 and a 41 wRC+.

Sean Murphy may finally be coming out of it. The 2023 All-Star catcher went 1-4 with two runs scored today, including the most "brute strength" home run you've ever seen in the 9th inning.

Facing reliever Kyle Finnigan, Murphy smacked a first pitch fastball at 102.1 off the bat to dead center field for a solo homer.

Oh, did we mention the bat was BROKEN when he did it?

Check out the replay below:

Can't say we've ever seen that before, but he had enough raw strength to get the ball up and out of the park despite the bat breaking in the process.

UPDATE: Andruw Jones did this for Atlanta in 2006!

Murphy's longball wasn't enough, however, as Atlanta dropped game one of the doubleheader 3-2 to Washington. Spencer Strider takes the mound in the nightcap, looking for the win and to get seven strikeouts for the Braves single season strikeout record, currently at 276 by John Smoltz in 1996.
