WATCH: Violent collision at home plate results in a run being taken off the board for the Padres

Travis d'Arnaud and Rougned Odor collided at home plate in the 4th inning resulting in a run being taken off the board because Odor did not touch home plate

Charlie Morton has labored through the first four innings. It might be the cold weather, but Charlie has not looked comfortable on the mound this evening. The Padres scored four runs, but after a brutal collision at home plate, one of those runs was taken off the board. It was a strange play that took place in the top of the fourth inning.

Rougned Odor was on third base and Ha-Seong Kim was on second when Trent Grisham hit a ground ball to first base. Matt Olson fired the ball home, but Travis d'Arnaud was unable to make the catch. He attempted to make the tag, thinking he had caught the ball, only to be hit in the face by a hard-charging Odor at the plate.

The ball got past Travis and to the backstop. Kim came in to score on the play as well. The Braves appealed the play, and home plate umpire Chad Fairchild called Odor out for not touching the plate before Kim touched the plate.

It was a weird way to get the second out of the inning, but thankfully for the Braves the Padres are only up 3-0 after the top of the 4th inning.

Update: d'Arnaud stayed in the game to finish the inning, but was replaced by Sean Murphy in the top of the 6th inning.
