BREAKING: Max Fried is placed on the 15-day injured list with a blister

The Braves have recalled Darius Vines to the majors as they look to get Max Fried ready for the postseason

In the end, it was still a problem.

Max Fried saw his start from earlier this week pushed back to Thursday because of a "hot spot" that developed on his left index finger, and the team was trying to prevent it from becoming a full-fledged blister.

So much for that.

The Atlanta Braves announced on Friday morning that Max Fried has been placed on the 15-day injured list with a blister on his left index finger.

Fried's dealt with these blisters before, both in the minors and earlier in his major league career. The team worked on it over the last few days, and he was able to remove the protective wrap and substances to throw a clean bullpen earlier this week.

But after last night's game, it had returned and will force him out of action for the rest of the regular season. "The outing felt great,” Fried said to the media last night. “Towards the end, my finger just filled up with a little bit of fluid. We drained it and we’ll take it day to day.”

With this IL placement, Fried's regular season is over, as he won't be eligible to return until after the final game of the regular season, on October 1st.

But Fried's confident it can be managed, and understands that the IL placement is for his own good. “We’re going to do everything in our power,” Fried said. “At the end of the day, it’s about getting outs and performing in the playoffs. Whatever we need to do to set us up for that, that’s my goal.”

Darius Vines was recalled from AAA Gwinnett and will slot into Fried's rotation spot for the rest of the regular season.
