Reports: Michael Soroka to start on Monday in Oakland

The Braves hurler is finally making his comeback to the big leagues from a twice-torn Achilles

1,029 days.

It's been that long since Michael Soroka pitched in a major league game for the Atlanta Braves.

The righthander tore his Achilles in the 3rd inning of a start against the New York Mets on August 3rd, 2020. He then re-tore it while rehabbing in 2021.

He was scratched from his scheduled Sunday start for AAA Gwinnett, and per reports, it's because Atlanta wants him to pitch for them on Monday in Oakland.

Soroka, 25, is 1-2 with a 4.33 ERA for Gwinnett this season, in eight starts. His last few have been fantastic, though, with Soroka's most recent against Durham (Tampa Bay Rays affiliate) being six innings with two hits, one run (earned), three walks and eight strikeouts on ninety-six pitches (fifty-eight strikes).

I like the idea of having Soroka make his first start on the road in Oakland, for a few reasons.

One, it's Oakland. They're one of the worst teams not only this season, but in baseball history. They're on pace to win under 40 games, with a run differential that's already -190.

Two, it's on the road. The first start back is going to be a whirlwind of emotions - let's space those emotions out by not having the first one be at home, too. The ovation Michael Soroka gets in Truist Park will undoubtedly be one of the longest and loudest in the park's history. Let's give him a chance to get the butterflies and jitters out before having him go through that.
