Yankees Reportedly Have Interest In Flame-Throwing Ex-Cardinals Hurler
The St. Louis Cardinals are among the many teams looking to add pitching depth to their roster this offseason and the competition is stiff.
Big market teams such as the New York Yankees, New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, and Los Angeles Dodgers are all looking for pitching this winter.
Recent reports indicate that the Yankees are eyeing to sign a former St. Louis reliever -- making a reunion much more difficult for the Cardinals.
"The Yankees will need to replenish their bullpen, and a league source told The Athletic that the team has interest in signing right-hander Jordan Hicks," The Athletic's Brendan Kuty and Chris Kirschner reported Wednesday.
Hicks posted a 3-9 record with a 3.29 ERA, 81-to-32 strikeout-to-walk ratio, .231 batting average against, and 1.36 WHIP in 65 2/3 innings pitched for the Cardinals and Blue Jays in 2023.
St. Louis reportedly has shown interest in re-signing Hicks after trading him to the Blue Jays at last year's trade deadline.
The Cardinals need to add a high-leverage arm or two and Hicks would be a perfect fit. However, the Yankees have the money to outbid St. Louis for the right-handed pitcher.
Will St. Louis be able to convince the highly sought-after hurler to return as a Cardinal in 2024?
