Cardinals Rising Star Received 'Generally Good News' After Undergoing MRI
The St. Louis Cardinals certainly aren't at full strength right now.
Although the 2024 season has just begun, the Cardinals already are missing some very important pieces. Top free agent addition Sonny Gray hasn't made his 2024 debut yet and the club is extremely thin in the outfield.
Tommy Edman, Lars Nootbaar, and Dylan Carlson all have missed the club's first eight games, as well. St. Louis had a logjam in the outfield in 2023, and this season they could use more depth thanks to all of the injuries.
Edman signed a new deal with St. Louis this past offseason and was expected to be the club's Opening Day center fielder but has been struggling after having offseason wrist surgery. He was a Gold Glove finalist in 2023 and is expected to play a major role, but hasn't been fully cleared yet.
It's unclear when the 28-year-old will be ready to go, but on the bright side, he did get some good news recently from an MRI, according to MLB.com's John Denton.
"Cardinals (center fielder) Tommy Edman said he got 'generally good news' from MRI scans he got on his surgically repaired right wrist on Wednesday," Denton said. "Edman said he is still shut down from most baseball activities until another exam on the wrist takes place on Monday. Edman had surgery in October."
While it's disappointing that he still isn't cleared for baseball activities, it sounds like he's making progress. It sounds like he didn't receive any setbacks from the recent MRI and with another positive exam Monday, maybe he could make more progress afterward.
St. Louis has been able to hold its ground so far this season but will need some reinforcements soon. Hopefully, Edman is able to recover and get back to the club soon.
