St. Louis Cardinals fans should be excited about the club right now.

The 2024 campaign is in full swing and the Cardinals have shown some flashes so far this season. Things haven't been perfect, but the club has been dealing with a plethora of injuries. It seems like the club is starting to get healthy and should have some reinforcements back soon.

St. Louis has been missing ace Sonny Gray, but he shouldn't be out too much longer. The three-time All-Star addressed his injury and gave a positive update Thursday, according to MLB.com's John Denton.

"Cardinals (right-handed pitcher) Sonny Gray said if it is up to him his next start will be in St. Louis with the Cardinals instead of making another rehab start with Triple-A Memphis or Double-A Springfield," Denton said. He said he’d be totally comfortable pitching in an MLB game with a 70-pitch limit."

Gray has been recovering from a hamstring injury that he suffered in Spring Training but seems to be on the right track. He participated in a simulated game Wednesday against minor leaguers and impressed. It's expected that his next outing will be next week with the Triple-A Memphis Redbird with a 70-pitch limit.

The fact that he feels comfortable and would prefer his next outing to be with the Cardinals should be a positive sign that he is nearing a return. He still likely will make at least one more minor league appearance, but it sounds like he's feeling healthy and comfortable.

His return will give the Cardinals a major lift and soon enough, other reinforcements like Lars Nootbaar, Dylan Carlson, and Tommy Edman should be on their way back too.
