Ex-Cardinals Outfielder Reportedly Close To Signing With AL Central Club
It sounds like one former member of the St. Louis Cardinals may finally find his next opportunity soon.
Former Cardinals outfielder Tommy Pham is the last of the top free agents to still be available. He impressed last season with the New York Mets and Arizona Diamondbacks hitting 16 home runs and driving in 68 runs, but somehow hasn't signed a new deal yet in free agency.
There have been plenty of rumors involving him in recent weeks and it sounds like he reportedly is nearing a deal with the Chicago White Sox, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.
"Tommy Pham, the free-agent outfielder who helped the Arizona Diamondbacks reach the 2023 World Series last season only to be unemployed for the next five months, finally is on the verge of finding a new club," Rosenthal said. "Pham, the No. 33 player on The Athletic's top-40 free-agent big board, is close to an agreement with the injury-depleted Chicago White Sox on a minor-league contract, according to sources briefed on discussions."
Pham was selected in the 16th round of the 2006 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft by St. Louis and spent the first four-plus seasons of his big league career with the club. He has bounced around since leaving St. Louis but is a very serviceable veteran option.
He shined last season and should be able to find success once he finalizes a deal. Hopefully, he can play like he did last season and land an even larger opportunity.
