Cardinals Electric Top Prospect Nearing History After Insane Start To Career
The St. Louis Cardinals have gotten some impressive play out of their top prospect to open the 2023 campaign.
Young outfielder Jordan Walker made history when he earned the Opening Day start for St. Louis and has continued to shine ever since. The 20-year-old has been one of the brightest spots for the Cardinals to open the young 2023 season and he already is nearing history.
Walker has played in each of the Cardinals' eight games so far this season and has gotten a hit in each one. If the young outfielder can keep his hitting streak going, he could set a new team record. Magneuris Sierra currently holds the Cardinals team record for hit streak to begin a career at nine games. Walker could surpass the record as soon as Monday night on the road against the Colorado Rockies.
The 20-year-old has been a man on a mission for the Cardinals to open the young season. Through eight games, Walker is third on the team in batting average at .355 and also is tied for the team lead with two home runs. In eight games Walker is slashing .355/.480/.700 to go along with two long balls, six RBIs, one double, and five walks.
Walker was drafted by the Cardinals in the first round of the 2020 MLB June Amateur Draft and has shot up the club's farm system ever since. The 20-year-old is the No. 4 prospect in all of baseball and has lived up to the hype so far to open his rookie season.
St. Louis hasn't gotten off to the start it hoped and is 3-5 through eight games, but should be in contention in 2023. If the Cardinals are able to go far this season, Walker is going to be a major reason why.
