Cardinals Have Surprising Odds To Land Marquee Starter After Stellar Season
The St. Louis Cardinals already have improved their starting rotation but could more moves be on the horizon?
St. Louis entered the offseason hoping to add three new starting pitchers and already have done just that. The Cardinals needed at least three starters and landed Sonny Gray, Lance Lynn, and Kyle Gibson despite the free agent starting pitching market being extremely slow so far.
Although the Cardinals have landed three starters already, it hasn't stopped rumors from spreading about more additions. St. Louis has been linked both to possible trade candidates as well as free agents.
Because of the slow free agent market, there still are plenty of frontline starters available if the Cardinals want to make another major splash. While a move still seems unlikely, St. Louis has been given intriguing odds to land two-time National League Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell.
St. Louis was given the seventh-best odds of landing the former Tampa Bay Rays and San Diego Padres star at +1000. If you were to place a $100 wager down on the Cardinals to land Snell and they do, you would take home a $1,000 profit.
The San Francisco Giants are the favorites to land Snell at +150 followed by the Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Chicago Cubs, and Seattle Mariners.
Snell has been linked to the Cardinals on multiple occasions since the offseason began, but still, a move should be viewed as unlikely. St. Louis still has holes it needs to fill on the roster and likely will spend elsewhere before addressing the rotation more. That's not to say a move couldn't happen, but still should be considered unlikely.
