Cardinals Officially Lose Young Slugger To Unfortunate Injury Possibly For Season
The St. Louis Cardinals certainly have been bitten by the injury bug this season.
St. Louis entered the 2023 campaign widely expected to finish atop the National League Central standings but things haven't panned out. Injuries have played a major role in the Cardinals' inconsistent season, although they can't be the only explanation for St. Louis' subpar 64-81 record.
The Cardinals have dealt with a wide range of injuries for much of the 2023 season and received more unfortunate news Wednesday afternoon. Rising Cardinals slugger Nolan Gorman officially was placed on the 10-day injured list due to a right hamstring strain, according to the club.
"(Infielder) Nolan Gorman (right hamstring strain) has been placed on the 10-day IL," the club said. "INF Juniel Querecuto has been selected from Memphis (AAA). He will wear uniform #62."
Gorman has been one of the brightest spots in an otherwise dreary season for the Cardinals. The 23-year-old has gotten his first truly extended opportunity at the big league level and has appeared in 119 games so far this season. Gorman certainly has impressed and has clubbed 27 home runs and driven in 76 RBIs to go along with a .236/.328/.478 slash line.
At this point in the season, it wouldn't be too surprising to see Gorman shut down for the rest of the campaign. St. Louis has just 17 games left this season and at this point, it may make sense for the club not to rush Gorman back and risk further injury.
