Cardinals Player Named Gold Glove Award Finalist As Nolan Arenado's Streak Ends
The St. Louis Cardinals have yet another finalist for a National League Gold Glove award, this time in the newly-adopted utility category.
Tommy Edman was named a finalist amongst the Los Angeles Dodgers' Mookie Betts and San Diego Padres' Ha-Seong Kim for the utility Gold Glove, created in 2022. Betts is also a finalist for right field.
Edman is the sole representative for the Cardinals for this year's awards, which is the second nod in his career -- the first resulting in winning the Gold Glove at second base in 2021.
Although being in contention for the award is impressive, it appears Edman may be a finalist due to a lack of talent available for the award. Kim leads the three utility finalists with 17 defensive runs saved and Betts follows him with 10 while Edman has just three.
Another Cardinal whose name is being brought up in regards to the Golden Glove awards is Edman's teammate Nolan Arenado, who is unfortunately making headlines for the wrong reason.
Although Arenado has consistently displayed a high level of defense in his 10-year career, this season will be the first that he is not a finalist for Major League Baseball's Gold Glove awards. The aforementioned streak dates back to his rookie year with the Colorado Rockies.
