Cardinals Receive Extremely Positive Update As Club Looks To Finally Turn Things Around
The St. Louis Cardinals may finally have one of its best players back in the lineup shortly.
St. Louis has had a disastrous season so far and currently is in last place in the National League Central at 29-43. Although the club has struggled, things may finally be starting to look up. St. Louis won two out of three games against the New York Mets in the club's weekend series and may finally get outfielder Lars Nootbaar back in the lineup as early as Monday, according to The Athletic's Katie Woo.
"Nootbaar went 4-for-5 with two homers and four RBI in his first full-action game (Sunday)," Woo said. "He could join the Cardinals as early as Monday against the (Washington Nationals)."
The 25-year-old has been out since May 29 while dealing with a back injury but it seems like his return to the field for St. Louis is imminent. Nootbaar has already missed 30 games so far this season for the Cardinals, but he has been extremely important when he has been in the lineup. The 25-year-old is having his best season to date with career highs across the board. Nootbaar is slashing .266/.380/.390 to go along with four home runs, five stolen bases, and 21 RBIs.
When Nootbaar officially returns, the club will have to make decisions in the outfield. Tommy Edman has been manning center field, Dylan Carlson is back from an injury himself, and top prospect Jordan Walker has been impressive since making his way back to the big leagues. Although the Cardinals will have decisions to make about playing time, Nootbaar can only help as they look to gain some ground in the National League Central standings.
