Cardinals Reportedly 'Can Afford To Win Any Bidding War They Choose To Enter'
The St. Louis Cardinals have already begun to rebuild their roster and might be bringing in more big names.
After adding veterans such as Lance Lynn, Kyle Gibson, and most notably Sonny Gray, the Cardinals have already set a high bar for how the offseason might look. St. Louis is off to a hot start in free agency, but an insider believes the team has no reason to slow things down.
"If (Yoshinobu) Yamamoto is open to hearing what the Cardinals have to offer, signing Gray should cause no pumping of the brakes," St. Louis Post Dispatch's Ben Frederickson wrote Tuesday.
"The Cardinals can afford to win any bidding war they choose to enter -- never forget that. This offseason is the time to stretch and strain for pitching, especially pitching that can provide a seasons-long answer."
After the Cardinals snapped their 15-season-long streak of being above .500, management clearly got to work this offseason by starting to improve their rotation -- there's no denying that. However, Fredrickson is right when he calls for more action. St. Louis can afford to spend.
Yamamoto is undeniably the best starting pitcher available right now, but the talent pool is still filled with stars like Blake Snell, Jordan Montgomery and Eduardo Rodriguez -- so why not go all out and grab a superstar?
