Cardinals Reportedly Could End Up Trading Nolan Arenado To Diamondbacks

How far is St. Louis going to go with their firesale?

With the Aug. 1 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline approaching, the St. Louis Cardinals will be shaking up the roster

Sitting in last place of the National League Central entering the All-Star Break, the Cardinals announced that the team is going to sell in preparation for the 2024 season.

Of course, the news has since flooded the media with trade hypotheticals and rumors, one of which involves the face of the franchise.

"No official news, but I would be very less than shocked if the (Arizona) Diamondbacks landed Nolan Arenado." Fansided contributor Alex D'Agostino tweeted Thursday.

Arenado is hitting .283 with 19 extra-base hits including 19 home runs, 62 RBIs and a .850 OPS in 86 games.

Personally, I don't believe the Diamondbacks will be acquiring the eight-time All-Star. The Cardinals have said that they want to keep its core together, of which Arenado is at the forefront -- and will be until he is no longer under team control in 2027.

The Diamondbacks surely would be interested in adding a player of Arenado's caliber but it would make no sense for St. Louis to move on from their best player -- especially after publicly talking about retooling for next season. D'Agostino tweeted with nothing behind his statements, and now his words are blossoming into a ridiculous rumor.
