Cardinals Officially Set To Hire Former Red Sox Executive To Advisory Role
The St. Louis Cardinals have been busy this winter after finishing last in the National League Central division last season.
The club has made moves this offseason to retool the rotation and bolstered the bullpen with trades and prospect acquisitions.
The latest move by St. Louis will impact the front office as the Cardinals have announced the hiring of a former executive of an American League foe.
"We (Cardinals) have named Chaim Bloom as an Advisor to the President of Baseball Operations," the team announced Monday.
Bloom was the chief baseball officer for the Boston Red Sox from 2020-2023 but was fired in September after the Red Sox were poised to finish last in the American League East for the third time throughout his four seasons with the franchise.
The 40-year-old began his tenure with the Red Sox at the beginning of COVID-19 and was not dealt an easy hand as the club struggled to recover from the fall of the 2018 World Series roster. Bloom was faced with a club that had a plethora of expensive veterans -- which led to chronically having to pay the luxury tax -- as well as a depleted farm system.
Despite the challenges Bloom faced, he contributed to leading the Sox to the American League Championship Series in 2021 and will provide the Cardinals' front office with an outside perspective of the organization.
Hopefully, Bloom will be able to bring new ideas to the table and help the Cardinals bounce back in 2024.
