Cardinals Top Prospect Absolutely Tearing Cover Off Ball To Open 2023 Season
The St. Louis Cardinals have gotten off to a hot start to open the 2023 campaign and the club's top prospect is a major reason why.
Young outfielder Jordan Walker made history when he took the field as one of St. Louis' starting outfielders on Opening Day and he has lived up to the hype so far, although in a very small sample size.
Walker is the Cardinals' No. 1 prospect and the No. 4 prospect in all of baseball and at just 20-years-old made the jump to the big leagues to open the 2023 campaign. The youngster didn't waste any time and collected his first MLB hit in his first at-bat and has since torn the cover off of the ball.
The 20-year-old is third in all of baseball in batted balls hit over 100 miles per hour through three games. Walker has collected at least one hit in all three games for St. Louis to open the season and is 4-for-12 overall from the plate to go along with two RBIs and a stolen base. Walker hasn't collected his first big league home run yet, but nabbed his first career double in St. Louis' 2023 season-opening series against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Three games certainly is a small sample size, but Walker already is impressing. St. Louis drafted him in the first round of the 2020 MLB June Amateur Draft and he has rocketed through the club's organization. He became the youngest player in team history to make his debut in over 40 years and he's already showing why the move made sense. There's plenty more baseball to be played in 2023, but Walker already is turning heads.
Cardinals fans should get used to Walker manning the outfield at Busch Stadium for the forseeable future.
