One former member of the St. Louis Cardinals seems to have found a new home.

Former Cardinals shortstop Paul DeJong has had a roller coaster of a season, to say the least. DeJong began the 2023 campaign on the injured list and impressed out of the gate when he returned to the lineup but cooled off in a big way. Trade rumors flowed around DeJong seemingly all season and eventually was dealt to the Toronto Blue Jays ahead of the 2023 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline.

DeJong appeared in just 13 games for Toronto in place of then-injured star Bo Bichette before being designated for assignment. The one-time All-Star mightily struggled with the Blue Jays and collected just three hits in 44 at-bats. Overall, DeJong slashed .068/.068/.068 with just one RBI in his stint with the Blue Jays.

After being designated for assignment, the San Francisco Giants quickly signed DeJong to a big league contract and he made his debut with the club Wednesday night against the Philadelphia Phillies. DeJong had one of his best games of the season in his debut collected three hits in five at-bats including a home run and drove in four runs. In just one game, DeJong matched his total hit total he had with the Blue Jays in 13 games and drove in three more runs.

San Francisco currently is in third place in the National League West and just a half-game out of a National League Wild Card spot. Hopefully, DeJong can get back on track and help the Giants make a run for a postseason spot.
