The St. Louis Cardinals arguably have been one of baseball's biggest disappointments this season.

St. Louis entered the 2023 campaign with World Series hopes and they came crashing down. The Cardinals have struggled this season and are sellers ahead of the 2023 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline. St. Louis already have dealt pitchers Jordan Montgomery and Jordan Hicks and there's sure to be more deals on the way before the August 1 trade deadline passes.

One team that reportedly could be a trade partner with the Cardinals is the Miami Marlins, according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi.

"The Marlins and Cardinals are potential trade partners on this Deadline Day," Morosi said. "Miami (general manager) Kim Ng would like to add offense, and Marlins manager Skip Schumaker has close knowledge of STL's available bats. The Cardinals also know Miami's prospects well from sharing a spring complex.

"Cardinals have been active in trade conversations last night and this morning. They're willing to move multiple bats. Most frequent names mentioned: Paul DeJong, Alec Burleson, and Dylan Carlson. Trade status of Tommy Edman, on the IL with right wrist inflammation, is unclear."

St. Louis has long been rumored to potentially deal DeJong, Burleson, Carlson, or Edman and it sounds like at least a few of the group will not remain with the club past the August 1 trade deadline. Some likely will as the Cardinals will look to return to postseason form in 2024, but the club will look to recoup assets.

Of the four offensive players, Carlson likely could bring in the best trade package. Many have speculated that a trade of Carlson could eventually back fire. He's just 24 years old and has shown flashes of brilliance but has been inconsistent at times as well. St. Louis has a logjam in the outfield so it wouldn't be too surprising to see him go for a solid trade package, but eventually, the club may regret it. All in all, the Cardinals will be extremely busy Tuesday as it looks to make a few moves to improve the club's future.
