Yankees Reportedly Interested In Trading Pitching Prospects For Cardinals Outfielder
With St. Louis just days away from shipping off some players that do not fit into their future, everyone will be waiting patiently to see who the club is picking up, with a bias toward the pitching staff.
Rumors have speculated that Cardinals outfielder Dylan Carlson will be on the market and the New York Yankees are a stong fit for a potential trade.
"The Yankees are interested in center fielder Dylan Carlson, according to two sources, and the Cardinals’ pitching. The Yankees have two Triple-A starters that fit the Cardinals’ target return, Clayton Beeter or Randy Vazquez, both 24," St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Derrick Gould reported Wednesday.
This exchange would be ideal for both ball clubs -- The Yankees need a corner outfielder, could use starting pitching in the interim and the Cardinals are desperate for pitching prospects that are close to being big-league ready.
Beeter is 7-3 with an impressive 2.36 ERA in 80 innings pitched for the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Beeter is showing promise that the Cardinals could capitalize on.
Vazquez on the other hand, has struggled since moving up from Double-A to Triple-A this season with a 5.21 ERA and recording a 2-8 record in 65 1/3 innings pitched.
With the abundance of outfielders, the Cardinals have in Lars Nootbar, Alec Burleson, Jordan Walker, Moisés Gómez, Juan Yepez, and even Tommy Edman and Brandon Donovan, it's safe to say that Carlson will not be terribly missed if traded for pitching investments.
What's costing the Cardinals games is their lack of pitching depth and a Carlson trade to New York may just be an answer to finding better pitching.
