If you’re the Chicago Cubs you’re looking at your organizational outfield depth and realizing that some of it could be in the Majors quite soon.

Pete Crow-Armstrong, their No. 1 prospect, spent September with the Cubs and has the inside track to be their Opening Day center fielder. Alexander Canario also spent September with the Cubs and will have a chance to play himself into a role. Kevin Alcántara impressed everyone at the Arizona Fall League and is another candidate to push for an MLB look in 2024.

So, the Cubs could be looking to replenish their stock as they select No. 14 overall next July during All-Star Weekend in Arlington, Texas.

Baseball America recently put together a mock draft based on the final first round order and the publication opted to help the Cubs replenish some of that depth with Georgia outfielder Charlie Condon:

Condon’s .800 slugging percentage was good enough for seventh among all Division I hitters and was the best mark among freshmen in the country in 2023. Baseball America’s 2023 freshman of the year, Condon is now a draft-eligible sophomore and provides huge raw power that stacks up with the top sluggers in the country. While Condon’s long levers create some swing-and-miss concerns, hie did show solid plate skills with a 17.7% strikeout rate and 13% walk rate. His strikeout rate was the second-lowest among all players with 25 or more home runs, behind only Maryland’s Nick Lorusso.

The SEC is a good place to look for high-end outfield talent.

One of the SEC’s top outfielders, Wyatt Langford of Florida, went No. 4 to the Texas Rangers. Two selections before Langford, The Washington Nationals took LSU outfielder Dylan Crews.

Condon posted one of the greatest freshman and overall seasons in Georgia history, batting .386 with 25 home runs and 67 RBI to capture the team's Triple Crown as the Bulldogs went 29-27 and advanced to the SEC Tournament. He captured a plethora of freshman and All-America awards as a result.
