Chicago Cubs Star Linked to Yankees for Trade Deadline Move
The Chicago Cubs could look a lot different come August 2, the day after the MLB trade deadline.
One team that is currently lurking as a potential trade partner is the New York Yankees.
According to NJ.com, an MLB scout has tabbed the Yankees as a logical fit to add 2019 National League MVP Cody Bellinger to their roster.
New York is needing some offense with Aaron Judge currently out with a toe injury and Bellinger would immediately provide production to the lineup as well as Gold Glove defense in the outfield.
The Yankees have also been linked as a potential fit for ace Marcus Stroman, however the fit and need for a bat like Bellinger's seems a more reasonable fit.
If Bellinger, who is on a one-year, $17.5 million contract this season, is made available at the deadline, the Cubs are due to bring in a haul.
The left-hander is the most talked about bat on the market and everyone from the Houston Astros to the Yankees could use his services. A bidding war is likely to ensue if his services are made available.
Bellinger is having an incredible bounce back season slashing .284/.341/.456 while still playing his patented Gold Glove defense in the outfield. He can also play first base which makes him a highly versatile player and a perfect fit for any contender looking to make an immediate upgrade.
