There are plenty of young stars in the Chicago Cubs' organization that have been called-up to the Major League roster or are on the verge of a promotion.

It signals an exciting time for the Cubs as they look to build a contender for years to come.

One of their young players who popped this season was Christopher Morel.

The 24-year-old had a slash line of .247/.313/.508 with 26 home runs and 70 RBI during his second year of Major League Baseball.

Morel was primarily used as the designated hitter after his inconsistent defense prevented him from being used as the full-time third baseman.

That's one of the areas they would like to see him improve upon because they are looking to upgrade that position.

The young star will get that opportunity in the Dominican Winter League with his former team Aguilas Cibaenas according to reports from MLB Insider Hector Gomez.

Morel, a Dominican Republic native, is expected to spend upwards of a month playing in the competitive winter league.

This isn't just a practice league either.

These games are taken seriously with the goal of winning a championship.

So, while Chicago would love for Morel to get reps at third base, it's ultimately up to Aguilas to decide what gives them the best chance to win.

According to a translated social media post, the Cubs have given their young star permission to play in the Dominican Winter League for a month without positional restrictions.

Whether or not he'll get the reps at third base within this competitive environment will be seen.
