Craig Counsell Voted Runner up in NL Manager of the Year Race
Former Milwaukee Brewers skipper, Craig Counsell, finished second in the National League Manager of the Year voting. Skip Shumaker of the Miami Marlins won the award with three more first-place, one more second-place, and three more third-place votes.
Counsell has now finished second in Manager of the Year voting four times, falling just short in 2018, 2019, and 2021.
He has never won the award.
However, getting Manager of the Year votes at this rate shows the type of manager that the new Chicago Cubs skipper is.
During his introductory press conference, Counsell had nothing but positive things to say about the future of the Cubs.
"It is time to be a Cub. There is momentum happening here and it feels close. That means there's a really exciting future ahead of us and now it's my job to be part of taking us to the next level."
While Chicago fans weren't the happiest with former manager David Ross, he also received a second-place vote.
The Cubs now have a manager that's held in one of the highest regards in the sport, something they've been searching for recently. With Counsell and money to spend this offseason, times are looking up in the Windy City.
As far as Counsell is concerned, he's made it clear that his focus is on winning a World Series.
A Manager of the Year award would be a great accomplishment, but from what he's said, he has his eyes set on a championship.
It still remains unknown if Chicago will be able to do so, but the hiring was a step in the right direction.
