Cubs' Ace Set To Return On Wednesday
The Chicago Cubs have continued their hot stretch of play from late July into the month of August. They hold an 8-3 record entering Sunday's game, putting them five games above .500.
The Cubs have performed this well without their ace pitcher Marcus Stroman.
He went on the injured list August 1st with right hip inflammation and has been rehabbing to try and return as soon as possible.
It looks like Stroman will be making is return to the starting rotation on Wednesday against their cross town rival Chicago White Sox.
On Saturday, manager David Ross spoke about the potential return of their ace saying, "All signs point to he'll be ready Wednesday. I'm pretty optimistic."
The right hander had struggled before he went on the injured list, posting a 1-4 record with a 9.00 ERA in this last seven starts. That was drastically different from the sub 3.00 ERA he posted in every month prior to July.
"I'm just in a way better space. It just becomes very difficult to make certain adjustments when certain things are limiting you, because then you start to compensate," Stroman said when discussing his return from injury.
There was some belief that Wednesday was going to be his first game back, but there was nothing official put out by the team or player.
Now, it seems like it will happen barring any setback during his light mound session on Sunday.
Stroman talked about his health after being on the injured list saying, "It just feels good to be in a place where I can work on what I need to work on and do what I need to do on the mound, honestly, and feel what I need to feel. It's just a way better feeling overall."
Chicago needs their ace pitcher to perform the way he did earlier in the season if they want to continue holding onto the final Wild Card spot they're in right now.
