Cubs Executive Seen as Frontrunner for Red Sox Front Office Job
As the Chicago Cubs begin their process to navigate the upcoming offseason, it seems like they'll have to move forward without one of their executives.
According to The Boston Globe, the Cubs' assistant general manager Craig Breslow is believed to have advanced to the second round of interviews for the Boston Red Sox front office job.
"According to multiple major league sources, the Sox have been informing candidates whether they have advanced to the second round of the process. Neither the size of the remaining field nor the complete roster that comprises it is known at this time, though multiple sources believe Cubs assistant general manager Craig Breslow will be a part of it," Alex Spier reports.
It's been an interesting process for the Red Sox who have had their position turned down multiple times by other prominent executives.
Breslow has rapidly ascended through Chicago's front office since joining the organization in 2019.
His promotions have put him on the radar for other teams, with many figures inside of baseball viewing him as a future President of Baseball Operations.
Whether that is the job that Boston is offering is unknown at this time since there are reports they could be looking to bring Breslow in with someone above him in the hierarchy.
Brett Taylor of Bleacher Nation says that the Cubs' executive is viewed as the "clear" frontrunner to be hired by the Red Sox in some capacity.
At least eight known candidates were interviewed in the first round of their process, but those who have advanced are not publicly known as of now.
Breslow has been an important figure for Chicago, overseeing pitching within the organization.
His departure would be a big loss for the Cubs as so many of their young pitching prospects seem poised to make their Major League leap in the coming seasons.
