The Chicago Cubs' offseason could be one for the ages. With star names available for the Cubs, they're in about every rumor out there.

For Chicago, however, their best move could be keeping a player around who was on the 2023 roster. That player is none other than Cody Bellinger.

Bellinger posted a 4.4 WAR with 26 home runs and slashed .307/.356/.525. He used 2023 as a prove-it year after struggling for three seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Prior to his struggles, Bellinger won an MVP and was a two-time All-Star.

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com released five potential suitors for Bellinger, which included the Cubs:

"Chicago rolled the dice on Bellinger last winter after he was non-tendered by the Dodgers, giving him a one-year, $17.5 million deal. Bellinger rewarded the Cubs with a bounce-back season, but now it’s going to cost a lot more over a lot more years to keep him on the North Side. Bellinger thrived at Wrigley Field, posting a .902 OPS with 14 homers in 66 games, so a return to Chicago -- where the Cubs remain thin in center field and at first base -- would be beneficial for both parties."

While the price will certainly be higher than it was last season, Chicago could be in a position to re-sign the slugging outfielder.

If they're looking to spend money and continue getting better this offseason, why not keep around the best player on the team from last season?

Other suitors for Bellinger included the New York Yankees, San Francisco Giants, Seattle Mariners, and Toronto Blue Jays.

As talks the rumor mill has started to heat up, there was some speculation that Bellinger would not be back with the Cubs in 2024.

But don't count out Chicago just yet to re-sign the superstar slugger.
