Former Chicago Cubs Star Moved to Marlins in Shocking Trade
The MLB Trade Deadline is getting closer and closer. Teams on the outside of the playoffs looking in are starting to sell off some of their parts to get prospects back in return.
After previously saying they wouldn't be sellers at the deadline, the New York Mets have decided to start trading away some players.
First out the door was former Chicago Cubs star closer David Robertson.
The Mets decided to trade him inside the division to the Miami Marlins which was shocking to many across the MLB.
After signing a one-year contract with New York in the offseason, the 38-year-old relief pitcher has put up good numbers. In 40 appearances, he has a 2.05 ERA with four wins out of the bullpen.
Coming into the season, very few thought that the Mets would be selling their parts to the Marlins, who are in the midst of their own playoff push.
There could be more sales coming from New York before the deadline as they've seemingly accepted they will not be a playoff team this year despite the high expectations.
As far as the Cubs, they're in their own predicate when it comes to the trade deadline.
They continue to win games which is make the decision to sell their own expiring contracts that much harder.
Winners of six in a row, Chicago is now five-and-a-half games back of the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central and four games back of the final Wild Card spot.
While the Cubs could still sell some pieces before the deadline, it most likely won't be a full sale that was expected before this winning run.
