One of the best farm systems in the MLB belongs to the Chicago Cubs. Instead of trading off some of their pieces before the deadline to add to that farm system, they instead decided to become buyers in their playoff push.

Because of how healthy their minor league situation is, they weren't in dire need to add more prospects.

Now, one of their young phenoms is putting together a season that has him as one of the biggest risers in the prospect rankings according to MLB.com.

18-year-old shortstop Jefferson Rojas has worked his way from the Rookie ball level to Single-A during his second season of professional baseball.

He was signed by the Cubs in 2022 out of the Dominican Republic and hit .303/.391/.407 with one home run and 19 RBI in 45 games. Rojas was promoted to Single-A this summer and has put together a slash line of .247/.333/.388 with four home runs and 22 RBI in 47 games at the higher level.

It's impressive the level of hitting and defensive prowess the young shortstop has shown in his first couple professional seasons. When or if he gets called up by Chicago is another question after they signed Dansby Swanson to a 7-year $177 million contract to be their shortstop in 2022 offseason.

Rojas is currently ranked as the number 15 prospect in the Cubs' farm system, but is expected to make a big jump based on performance and potential.

The early projections are the phenom will make his major league debut at some point during the 2026 season at roughly 21-years-old.
