Superagent Compares Cubs' Slugger to Other Star Players

Scott Boras made an interesting Cody Bellinger comparison when discussing a potential contract.

Agent Scott Boras will never be one to take less than what his clients deserve. In fact, he often finds a way to get more money than most were assuming his clients were going to get.

That looks like it might be the case again for Chicago Cubs' free agent Cody Bellinger.

This past offseason, he took a one-year prove-it deal with the Cubs and is now on the verge of getting paid a $200-plus million contract that he was previously expected to get before a tough stretch with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Boras has gone to bat for his client Bellinger, noting that his other clients, Bryce Harper and Corey Seager, both got better after they signed their megadeals at age 28.

Jesse Rogers of ESPN reported what Boras had to say during the Winter Meetings:

"What have they done after they've signed when they're 28? Harper got better. Seager has gotten better. It tells you that those kinds of players, who can do that at such a young age, actually get better beyond what they did at a younger age, once they're healthy and returned to play."

Given what those two have done after signing their massive contracts, Boras seems to believe Bellinger can do the same thing. While that was once almost a definite, the slugging left-hander has had a few rough years in his career, leading to some questions about his potential abilities.

Either way, Boras believes that Bellinger deserves to be paid, and even doubled down on his take about Seager's free agency.

"It reminds me of Seager's free agency," Boras told ESPN. "Seager got hurt in his platform season. Cody had a great platform season."

If other teams feel the same way about the left-handed slugger, it makes it that much difficult for Chicago to get him back onto their roster.
