D-backs to Evaluate Bullpen Against White Sox
The Diamondbacks (11-11-1) will take on the Chicago White Sox (9-8-2) at Camelback Ranch. With the D-backs pitching schedule still tangled up due to rain cancelling last week's split-squad doubleheader, right-hander Bryce Jarvis will get the start. First pitch is 1:05pm MST.
Lineups
Emmanuel Rivera makes his first appearance in a Cactus League game since March 5th. He was participating in the World Baseball Classic for Puerto Rico.
Scheduled Pitchers
LHP Kyle Nelson, RHP Luis Frias, RHP Carlos Vargas, LHP Sam Clay, RHP Michel Otañez, RHP Josh Green, RHP Austin Pope, RHP Raffi Vizcaino
Who is Bryce Jarvis?
Bryce Jarvis was selected by the D-backs with the 18th overall selection of the 2020 MLB Draft. He is currently listed as the team's No. 15 prospect entering the 2023 season and could be poised for a breakout year after making improvements in his delivery this spring.
His fastball sits 94-97 MPH with a sharp, downhill angle and late arm-side run coupled with two swing-and-miss secondaries between his slider and change-up. He had a tough season with the D-backs Double-A affiliate, as a short extension made his fastball play slower. As a result of the work done on his delivery, Jarvis is averaging nearly a foot more in extension and is seeing his fastball produce better results in two Cactus League outings.
Updates
Right-hander Merrill Kelly has been announced as the starter for Team USA as they take on the winner of Japan/Mexico in the World Baseball Classic Championship Game. USA is looking to defend their 2017 title.
In the last two days, 12 players have been cut from big league camp, with the most notable being RHP Brandon Pfaadt and LHP Tommy Henry.
Torey Lovullo said that it's possible that Henry could come back to work out of the bullpen in the not too distant future, and that was discussed with him. But no such discussions took place with Brandon Pfaadt and they are not considering that for him.
