The National League Most Valuable Player Award was announced tonight, with the Braves' Ronald Acuña Jr. being the unanimous winner. Unsurprisingly Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Matt Olson rounded out the Top 4, with Freeman narrowly edging out Olson 17-13 amongst third place votes. Finishing in fifth place, was Diamondbacks rookie outfielder Corbin Carroll.

Voters had the opportunity to select up to 10 players for the MVP award. Carroll took the lion's share of the fifth place votes, getting 20 of a possible 30, to finish ahead of the Padres Juan Soto. The last D-back to place in the Top 5 was Ketel Marte, who finished fourth in 2019 after hitting 32 home runs and narrowly missing out on a batting title to winner Christian Yelich.

Earlier this week Carroll was unanimously named NL Rookie of the Year, which will result in the D-backs getting awarded a compensatory draft selection after the first round. In his exciting rookie season, the he hit .285 with 25 home runs, 76 RBI, and stole 54 bases. On September 20th, he became the first ever rookie in major league history to record a 25 home run and 50 stolen base season with both feats achieved in the same game. He would help the D-backs achieve immediate postseason success, securing a National League Pennant when he caught the last out.

Two other D-backs, ace Zac Gallen and first baseman Christian Walker, received votes. Both players each received a 10th place vote to finish tied for 23rd. It is the first time either player received any MVP votes, with the former finishing in 3rd place for the NL Cy Young Award.
