Critical Test for Tommy Henry and Bryce Jarvis vs. Rockies
When the Diamondbacks host the Rockies Wednesday at Salt River Fields, game time 1:10 P.M., there will be more on the line than is usual for a Cactus League game. Tommy Henry and Bryce Jarvis, who are locked in a battle for the 5th starter's spot along with Ryne Nelson, will both pitch today. Henry will get the start and Jarvis is expected to come in for multiple innings afterwards. Paul Sewald, Joe Mantiply, and Scott McGough are also listed on the team notes as probable pitchers.
Today's outings for Henry and Jarvis have added significance after an injury suffered by No. 3 starter Eduardo Rodriguez last night against the Cubs. The veteran left-hander had to leave his start with Left Lat Tightness. While we're waiting for further updates on his status, any shutdown, even a brief one, would likely result in an injured list stint to start the season. In that case, the team must choose two of the three starters still competing for the 5th spot.
Henry has not pitched that well in his last three outings and needs to turn things around in this game to get back on track. In 13.2 innings he has an 8.65 ERA and has allowed 23 hits, three homers, and five walks with just nine strikeouts. Jarvis' spring numbers are no better, allowing eight earned in 7.1 innings for a 9.82 ERA. He pitched well in his most recent outing, however, striking out five batters in 3.1 scoreless innings of work, following a short start by Henry.

Lineups
Henry and Jarvis will need to prove themselves against the Rockies' projected starting lineup. If either pitcher is needed to fill in for Rodriguez, they will likely face a similar lineup come March 20th.
