D-backs Put in a Claim for 4 Players, Get None
Today was a huge day in baseball, as ten players were put on waivers. When the dust settled, the Diamondbacks were unable to make a successful waiver claim today. Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reported that the D-backs put in a claim for four players, but all four players were snatched up by teams higher in the waiver priority.
Here's a breakdown of who got claimed by which team:
- Guardians: RHP Lucas Giolito, RHP Reynaldo Lopez, LHP Matt Moore
- Reds: OF Harrison Bader, OF Hunter Renfroe
- Mariners: RHP Dominic Leone
- Unclaimed: OF Randal Grichuk, RHP Carlos Carrasco, RHP Mike Clevinger
Since Arizona was unable to make a waiver claim, we can assume that they made a claim on four of the five players claimed by the Guardians and Reds. Most likely they made a claim on Giolito, Lopez, Moore, and Bader and were blocked by two teams with a higher claiming priority. John Gambadoro, host of the Burns and Gambo show, confirmed those were the four players.
In order for a player to become postseason eligible, they need to be on their respective team's 40-man roster at 11:59pm E.T. Should the D-backs not make any moves today, it means they are content going down the stretch with the group they currently have.
