Diamondbacks All-MLB Team Nominees

The Arizona Diamondbacks have six nominees for All-MLB, but there's one glaring omission.

Major League Baseball announced their annual All-MLB list of nominees that fans can vote on to select who will be this year's top player at each position in the MLB. It's voted on by fans and by an expert panel. Fans can vote once every 24 hours between now and November 19th at 8 p.m EST. The awards were first established in 2019 and this year has the most Diamondbacks players up for selection than ever before. Of course, it helps that this year's team was actually good. Winners are announced on December 16th. 72 position players and 50 pitchers are nominated for the 11 different positions in baseball ranging from catcher to relief pitcher.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have six nominees, but regrettably, it should be seven. Surprisingly, star catcher Gabriel Moreno isn't one of the nominees at catcher despite being the best defensive catcher in the MLB and hitting .284 with an OPS of .747 and and a 104 OPS+.

The Diamondbacks kicked off their nominations with Christian Walker at first base. He is a deserving candidate fresh off of winning a Gold Glove. He hist .258 with an OPS of .830 and an OPS+ of 123. He led the D-backs in home runs and RBI with 33/103, respectively.

Ketel Marte is a contender at second base and represents the Diamondbacks. He hit .276 with an OPS of .844 and an OPS+ of 123. The second baseman served as a strong leader for the young team and did well on defense. Plus, he led the team in walks with 71. His stiff competion including Ha-Seong Kim, Ozzie Albies, and Marcus Semien among others.

Corbin Carroll is apart of the outfield nomination that includes Ronald Acuna Jr., Mookie Betts, and Kyle Tucker among others. Corbin led the Diamondbacks in hits, triples, stolen bases, batting average, OPS, and OPS+. The All-Star outfielder hit .285 with a .868 OPS, and a 134 OPS+. He is the only rookie in MLB history to have 25 home runs and 54 stolen bases. Plus, he led the National League in triples with 10. He's a finalist and the favorite to win NL Rookie of the Year.

Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly are both nominated for starting pitcher. The co-aces led the pitching staff in every single category. They are both wholly deserving, especially Gallen who is a finalist for the CY Young Award. Gallen pitched 210 innings and had a 17-9 record with a 3.47 ERA and 220 strikeouts to just 47 walks. Kelly pitched 177.2 innings and went 12-8 with a 3.29 ERA and 69 walks to go with 187 strikeouts.

The Arizona Diamondbacks final nominee is closer Paul Sewald. Sewald came over at the trade deadline via a trade with the Seattle Mariners. He had a 3.57 ERA in 20 games with 16 games finished and 13 saves. He pitched 17.2 innings and allowed 10 walks to 20 strikeouts. The veteran closer solidified the bullpen and was the anchor that got the Diamondbacks into the postseason.
