D-backs Recall Tommy Henry, Option Drey Jameson to Reno
Prior to tonight's game against the Kansas City Royals, the Diamondbacks have made a move with their rotation. The team has announced that they've recalled left-hander Tommy Henry and optioned right-hander Drey Jameson to Triple-A Reno.
Henry, 25, was initially optioned to Triple-A after failing to win the competition for the final rotation spot this spring. He made four starts with Reno, going 1-1 with a 6.33 ERA and a 22/8 strikeout to walk ratio in 21.1 innings. In all four of his starts he has cleared the fifth inning, most recently throwing a quality start against Salt Lake on Tuesday.
Jameson, 25, initially made the roster as a reliever but was added back to the rotation after Zach Davies injured his left oblique. After a solid outing against Milwaukee on April 12th, the young flamethrower has struggled in his last two starts. After laboring through 3.2 innings against the Cardinals, Jameson lasted just one inning against San Diego. He'll have the chance to fully stretch out in Reno, but will have to spend 15 days there before he is eligible to be recalled unless it's to replace an injured player.
Due to three off days on the next road trip, the D-backs can roll with a four-man rotation for the next two weeks. They don't need a fifth starter until May 9th at the latest, which is also the first game Jameson can be recalled to the active roster. This could be a situation where Jameson stretches out and works on his pitching before getting called up. Alternatively the team could elect to promote top pitching prospect Brandon Pfaadt from Reno to start May 7th.
