Geraldo Perdomo on His Home Run and Postseason So Far
Geraldo Perdomo had himself a night for the ages in the Arizona Diamondbacks Game Three victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. By sweeping LA they advance to the National League Championship to face either the Phillies or Braves. Perdomo kick-started the home sellout crowd into a frenzy as he launched a home run off of Dodgers' starter Lance Lynn in the third inning. That proved to be just the first of what would be four total home runs in that inning off of Lynn. The others were hit by Ketel Marte, Christian Walker, and Gabriel Moreno.
Perdomo had been in a 0-7 slump prior to the home run. He went 1-3 in the game. The starting shortstop is now hitting .167/.375/.417 in his first go-round in the postseason over five games with two hits, four walks, and four strikeouts alongside the aforementioned home run.
After the game, Perdomo spoke on his home run, considering he's not known for his power and had just six home runs during the regular season. He said "It feels amazing. I feel like we didn't expect we would hit for a homer. I just tried to make really good swings, tried to get on base. But...the party is at the front. And so I started the party and [Ketel] Marte followed me."
Perdomo has provided the D-backs with great defensive play at shortstop. He's enabled the D-backs to keep winning by making every play at shortstop with ease and not letting any moment get too big for him. He's yet to make an error this postseason and had just three during the entire regular season. Some say he might win a Gold Glove. So far, in the postseason, Perdomo has seven put-outs and 16 assists highlighting how many chances he has had and how he's succeeded on all them. He's been a part of five double plays turned too.
Perdomo has been a part of the D-backs team for parts of the last two seasons and has experienced the D-backs struggles against the Dodgers. When asked how it felt to sweep the Dodgers, Perdomo said "It's amazing, we played really good baseball early in the season. We played really good baseball against these guys. They beat us when we were struggling a little bit. At the interview three days ago, the first game in L.A., I said we had a fresh mind right now. Like everything started from the beginning. Nobody believed in us and I think God put us in a good way right now."
Unlike Ketel Marte or Christian Walker, Perdomo hadn't experienced the playoffs or a playoff atmosphere at Chase Field before. He's played in front of sold-out crowds like Opening Day, but nothing like when it comes to the playoffs. He could feel the energy of the crowd and said it "felt really amazing."
He later continued on saying "When they say it was going to be sold out, I didn't expect it was going to be like that. But wow, it reminded me of playing winter ball in the playoffs. Down there, it was loud, a lot of fans. The crowd today was incredible."
Geraldo Perdomo will next play on Monday, October 16th, against either the Phillies or the Braves. He will be looking to continue his great defensive play and stay hot at the plate as the D-backs look to reach the World Series for the first time since 2001.
