Ketel Marte Records D-backs' 3rd Postseason Walk-Off Hit
With their backs against the wall, the Diamondbacks got a huge emotional lift from second baseman Ketel Marte. Facing Craig Kimbrel with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th in a tied game, he got on top of a high fastball to hit a line drive that landed just in front of Phillies center fielder Johan Rojas to score Pavin Smith from third.
It marked the third postseason walk-off hit in D-backs history and the first since their championship season in 2001. Tony Womack walked off the division series with a blooper to left field and Luis Gonzalez would do the same just weeks later in Game 7 of the World Series.
"I was sitting on fastball. He threw me fastball, good pitch. I know what kind of hitter I am, he threw a fastball again and I got a hit."
Ketel Marte has hits in all 12 postseason games he's played with the D-backs, adding three more tonight. He's been their hottest hitter this postseason, batting .371 with two home runs and a 1.046 OPS. In just the NLCS, he's 6-for-13 at the plate with three doubles.
The hit provided the first signature moment for the D-backs in the National League Championship Series and extends to series to at least a Game 5. Stay here for more coverage of today's win!
