Zac Gallen Named NL Starter in All Star Game

Gallen will face off against Gerrit Cole and the AL star studded lineup

Zac Gallen has earned the start for the National League in the All Star Game to be played tomorrow night in Seattle, 5:00 P.M. PST.  He will be opposed by Gerrit Cole of the Yankees for the AL squad.

Gallen is 11-3, with a 3.04 ERA.  His win total is tied for the league lead, his ERA ranks 6th, and his 1.048 WHIP is also tops in the NL

Gallen has been an unquestioned stopper for a surprising Diamondbacks team. In outings following a team loss he is 7-0, with a 1.84 ERA and the team is 8-2 in those game.

Earlier in the year Gallen had a 28 consecutive innings scoreless streak, coming on the heels of a franchise record  44.1 scoreless streak over the second half  of last season.  Since last year's All Star game played July 19th, 2022, Gallen has been the best pitcher in the National League. He's made 33 starts, thrown 209 innings and gone 19-5 with a 2.37 ERA.  All of those numbers are the best in the league.

Gallen is in his 5th major league season and has exactly 100 starts. He's gone 33-25 and has a 3.08 ERA.  Originally drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals, he was traded to the Miami Marlins in 2018 and later by the Marlins to the D-backs at the 2019 trade deadline, marking one of the most successful trades of General Manager Mike Hazen's tenure with the Diamondbacks.

Gallen will be joined in the All Star game by teammates Corbin Carroll, Lourdes Gurriel Jr, and Geraldo Perdomo.  Carroll was voted in by fans and will be a starter as well.
