Mookie Betts Gets Highest Possible Praise from Dodgers' Biggest Rival
San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Logan Webb appreciates facing the Los Angeles Dodgers leadoff batter Mookie Betts, which is the highest of compliments considering how well Betts has done against Webb in his career.
In 27 plate appearances against Webb, Betts has nine hits including two doubles and two home runs. He's only struck out against the Giants pitcher twice and has walked once.
Betts got the best of Webb already this season when he recorded two hits, including a solo home run, two runs scored, and one RBI in a 5-4 win against the Giants.
“He knows he owns me, and we’ve kind of talked about it a little bit before," Webb said as a guest on The Chris Rose Rotation. "But I love facing him. You always want to compete against the best guys.”
As the conversation with Rose continued, Webb also praised Betts for being to dominate at the plate while learning a new position.
“I’m never surprised by something that he does," said Webb. The fact that he was the best right fielder in baseball, and then watching him play infield now, he’s incredible out there. He makes every single play, he makes great plays, he makes SportsCenter-type plays. It’s fun to watch.”
Webb, who was last year's National League Cy Young runner-up, knows that when he looks back on his professional career he can appreciate the all-time duels against Betts, who is a seven-time All-Star, a six-time Silver Slugger, a one-time MVP and a one-time batting champion.
“It’s one of those things," said Webb. "You’re gonna look back one day and be like, ‘Man, it was cool that I got to play against that guy.' He’s one of those special talents.”
