Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Expects Betts, Freeman to Turn Things Around This Series
The Dodgers are down 0-2 in the NLDS and the lack of runs has gone hand and hand with the lack of production from the best 1-2 hitters in the regular season.
Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman have combined to go 1-13 at the plate in both NLDS games at Dodger Stadium.
No one was expecting these superstars to struggle, especially not manager Dave Roberts.
"I’m surprised," Roberts said. "I think that going into this series, I thought Mookie swung the bat well in the week before as far as the simulated games," Roberts said. "I thought Freddie was swinging well. But I’ve talked to Freddie and he doesn’t feel like his swing is great."
Freeman's "not great" swing was shown when he went down looking in the bottom of the fifth with a runner on third.
With the Dodgers' backs against the wall, the start of the comeback will need to start at the top of the lineup with Betts and Freeman.
Freeman has a good history of hitting at Chase Field and he will need that production to continue.
Betts has yet to record a hit in the postseason this year but when he is on, he is nearly impossible to get out.
Betts will need to flip the switch this postseason and join Freeman in carrying this Dodgers offense by getting on base and driving in runs.
The Dodgers will play at Chase Field at 6:07 p.m. and if they want their season to continue past Game 3, the stars will need to shine for Los Angeles.
