4 Dodgers Are One Step Closer to Making the All-Star Game
Halfway through the year, we have now approached MLB All-star season as four Dodgers are deemed finalists in the final stage of voting for the National League roster.
Those players are Freddie Freeman, Will Smith, Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez.
All of these standouts could have the chance to represent the National League, if selected after the final stage of voting, which is set to resume on June 26-29.
These Dodgers join the likes of players like Ozzie Albies, Nolan Arenado, Bryce Harper and others.
Dodgers catcher Will Smith and first baseman Freddie Freeman, are up against Matt Olson and Sean Murphy of the Braves, in the fight to start for the National League All-star team for their respective positions.
As for J.D. Martinez, he has entered the final phase as the DH nominee, taking on Bryce Harper for that spot.
An interesting thing to keep in mind when it comes to all-star voting is Mookie Betts' nominated situation. Betts is up against four other players who are fighting for the final two outfield starting positions.
Betts also said that if he's selected as an All-Star, he will participate in this year's Home Run Derby.
This would be Betts' first Home Run Derby, despite being selected as an All-Star five times.
This seems inevitable as he has accumulated the third-most votes in the ballot so far, joined by his teammate, Freddie Freeman, in the top three.
As for Freeman, this would be his seventh All-Star game if selected, making him the Dodger with the second-most appearances. Of course, that is right behind No. 22 himself, Clayton Kershaw, who has nine. Hopefully he makes it 10 this year when it's all said and done.
