Dodgers' Mookie Betts Reaches Two Huge Milestones
Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Mookie Betts is having a start to the season that only certain players could dream of. He's off to the hottest start anyone has ever had, helping to lead Los Angeles to a 7-2 record through nine games.
The Dodgers haven't even looked like the team we all know they can be, yet they sit at the top of the division and hold one of the best records in baseball. Betts is a massive reason for that. In the meantime, the seven-time All-Star is reaching milestones this early in the season.
In the domestic Opening Day at Dodger Stadium last Thursday, against the Cardinals and pitcher Miles Mikolas, Betts hit a solo home run. Once he crossed home plate, Betts scored his 1,000th career run. The king of scoring runs in Dodger Blue did the inevitable.
However, that was only one of the two milestones Betts achieved in this seven-game homestand. The other milestone the six-time silver slugger reached was recording the 1,500th hit of his career. On Tuesday, Betts homered off Logan Webb in the third rinning recording this significant milestone. On top of that, Betts also recorded his fifth home run of the season.
This homestand was historic for the Dodgers superstar. In those reserve games, Betts slashed .417/.548/1.083, four home runs, four RBIs, seven walks, one stolen base, ten hits and 12 runs in 24 at-bats.
The 31-year-old became the 18th player to score his 1,000th career run while playing for the Dodgers. He also became the 664th player in MLB history with 1,500 hits.
Here's to many more milestones for the future Hall of Fame player.
