Clayton Kershaw Rumors: Rangers Remain Interested in Dodgers' Star, When Could He Sign?
One of the biggest question marks still surrounding the Dodgers this offseason is the status of veteran left-handed pitcher Clayton Kershaw. The Dodgers' legend is a free agent and has yet to sign, or give any hints about where he may wind up.
He is recovering from offseason shoulder surgery and isn't expected to pitch until after the All-Star break. The Dodgers' would love him back, but his hometown Texas Rangers also have shown interest.
It's widely expected that Kershaw is choosing between these two franchises, as it's been for the last few offseasons. And earlier this week, The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal gave the latest Kershaw update during an appearance on the Foul Territory show.
“I still see him as a Dodger, because we don’t know where Texas is going with Jordan Montgomery, with their finances in general. Texas would want to sign Kershaw even though they have three other pitchers… all going back after the All-Star break.”
The longer that this plays out, the more antsy the fanbase will become. Most fans want Kershaw back and believe that he deserves another season wearing Dodger Blue.
He has played every season of his career with the Dodgers, and playing for one team has to mean something to him.
“It is possible that he waits, and waits until later in the offseason even into the season to make his decision, but I would expect it would come before then.”
If Kershaw returns, it could be a final farewell for the left-hander. After all he has done for the Dodgers organization, it would be a nice sendoff for him to be on a team as loaded as this one.
He wouldn't be counted on to be the guy at the top of the rotation any longer, and could slot in as the No. 4 or No. 5 starter. At this stage of his career, the only thing that matters to him is winning.
