Corbin Burnes Rumors: Former MLB GM Puts Together Trade Package to Bring Ace to Dodgers
In recent trade rumor news for this offseason, the Los Angeles Dodgers appear to have been very aggressive in acquiring starting pitching as it's been reported they are interested in acquiring Dylan Cease from the Chicago White Sox. But, with potentially acquiring Cease, could they acquire a starting pitcher from an NL Central team?
Earlier this week, former general manager Jim Bowden of the Cincinnati Reds and Washington Nationals believes the Dodgers might inquire about trading for Brewers pitcher Corbin Burnes, as the Brewers have not made anything official but it appears they might be headed into a rebuild after losing manager Craig Counsell to the Chicago Cubs.
If the Brewers do intend to enter a rebuild, they will have a haul of players they could trade off for future young prospects that could make their franchise competitive for years to come.
In Bowden's report, the Dodgers could indeed look into trading off right-handed pitchers Emmet Sheehan and Ryan Pepiot and a few younger players that are in the low/high A ball class right now.
Bowden also suggested that the Dodgers could move outfielder Andy Pages and third baseman Jake Gelof, their second-round pick from this past draft.
If the Dodgers are able to pull off a trade for Burnes, they will inherit a pitcher who was the 2021 NL Cy Young winner and the 2022 NL strikeout leader. Burnes is also a three-time All-Star and a one-time NL ERA leader in 2021.
In Burnes' Cy Young award season, he went 11-5 with a 2.43 ERA, 234 strikeouts and a 6.9 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
The opportunity to play for the Dodgers as well could be very enticing for Burnes as he is a former Loyola-Marymount University student, the same school where Dodgers manager Dave Roberts' son Cole went.
Heading into 2024, the only sure thing about the Dodgers staff is Walker Buehler and Bobby Miller.
They need to make moves, and Burnes checks all the boxes.
