Dave Roberts Reveals Dodgers Will Call Up Starting Pitcher for Saturday’s Game Against Yankees
The Los Angeles Dodgers are getting set for a huge matchup this weekend against the New York Yankees. The teams are meeting for the first team since August of 2019, when the Yankees took two of three against the Dodgers.
The Dodgers have Clayton Kershaw set to start on Friday night while rookie Bobby Miller is going on primetime on Sunday night. However, Gavin Stone's spot in the rotation is scheduled for Saturday, and he's back in Triple-A after struggling at the MLB level.
So, the Dodgers need to make a move ahead of Saturday's game, and on Wednesday, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts revealed what it would be.
The Dodgers will be activating RHP Michael Grove off the injured list to make Saturday's start against the Yankees. Juan Toribio of MLB.com was among those to report it.
Grove started the season as the Dodgers' No. 5 starter after Ryan Pepiot got hurt before the year began. Grove got off to a slow start, however, he was apparently not 100 percent healthy for his first few starts.
In his final start-and-a-half before going on the IL, Grove went 8.2 innings and allowed just three earned runs. However, he got hurt in his fourth start, and has been out ever since.
Grove has been slowly working his way back from his groin injury, and finally is ready to make a return. He made two rehab starts in Triple-A, pitching 10 innings and allowing just two runs while striking out 14.
Grove is likely to get more than one start with Julio Urias still out. And if he continues to pitch like he did in his final two starts, he could earn himself consistent playing time for an extended period of time.
The Dodgers rotation has been hit with injuries all year long, so it's nice to see them finally getting someone back.
