Dodgers Analyst Praises Freddie Freeman for Turning LA Into Grittier Team
Freddie Freeman’s example of playing every game has helped to turn the Dodgers into a grittier team.
Doug McKain of dodgersnation.com talked to Dodgers analyst Jose Mota about this. You can watch the full video by clicking here.
Here's what Mota had to say about the Dodgers' attitude and mindset this year, and how it differs from the 111-win team last year who fell short in the NLDS.
“Take care of today,” Mota said. “111 wins is 111 wins from last year, but I see this team with a different mentality. I think Freddie Freeman has a lot to do with it. It’s pretty much every inning. Every third of a game. Every last part of a game. From lineup broken into three pieces, there’s a way in which they’re grinding out at-bats. This team is really good at beating bullpens … They have the mentality of, whatever happened in the fifth inning, don’t bring it to the seventh inning. I want to continue to see that. I want to see that all throughout the season, the rest of the season and for the playoffs.”
Freeman and Mookie Betts are having unbelievable seasons and have become clubhouse leaders. While Betts has been red-hot over the last few months, everyone in the game of baseball marvels at Freeman’s consistency. Dave Roberts even compared Freeman to the late Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn.
Anyone who sees the success Freeman is having will want to follow Freeman’s example, and this year’s Dodgers are doing just that.
Like Mota said, they don’t take off an inning no matter if they are 8 runs up or 7 runs down. The Dodgers are a scrappy team that think they can win every game.
This is the type of attitude that will help them go deep in the postseason.
