Dodgers, Cody Bellinger Reunion Seems Very Possible According to One Oddsmaker
Former Dodgers outfielder Cody Bellinger will be entering free agency this winter after a very successful 2023 season with the Chicago Cubs. Bellinger won the National League Comeback Player of the Year award, and he is expected to draw heavy interest from clubs all over the league.
He hit .307 with 26 home runs and 97 runs batted in for Chicago this past season. Bellinger also posted an OPS of .881, which is the highest he had done since his 2019 MVP season.
Bellinger is expected to get paid this winter after a strong season, and his agent recently said that he is open to landing anywhere in the league. This leaves the door open for a possible return to the Dodgers, but it remains to be seen if LA would want him back.
While unlikely, the oddsmakers seem to believe that there is a good chance for a reunion. According to BetOnline, the Dodgers are the favorite to land Bellinger if he signs somewhere other than Chicago this offseason. They are currently at 2/1 odds right now, with the Philadelphia Phillies right behind them at 3/1.
This would be very interesting if Bellinger were to return, especially since the team was so open to him leaving a year ago. But he looked much like his former self this year with the Cubs, so maybe the Dodgers take another look.
Fans would love the move since he was a fan favorite during his time with the team, but the Dodgers could likely get more value by signing another player. It’s going to cost a lot to land Bellinger, and this past year may have been a mirage for all we know.
His success from this year can’t be overstated, but he was in a contract year to be fair. It makes more sense to let another team pay him the big money for his services, while LA looks elsewhere to upgrade their club for next season.
