Dodgers GM Hints at More Trades Coming to Upgrade LA Offense
After Tuesday’s trade to obtain Kiké Hernàndez, many people wonder if the Dodgers are through with upgrading the offense.
Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes, however, made it clear that he is still studying the market, per Rowan Kavner of Fox Sports.
"This doesn’t preclude us from exploring other right-handed bats. Because of the versatility, it leaves us the flexibility to go out and see what’s available and kind of assess our options."
This year, the Dodgers’ offense rarely causes losses, but like always in baseball, it can be improved. At the bottom of the order, the Dodgers have weak hitters. If Gomes can find a player to improve that aspect of the offense, especially against left-handed pitching, he probably will make a trade.
The Dodgers’ .247 batting average is the 18th-highest in the major leagues. While people tend to ignore a batting average, it is still an important statistic to measure how a team is performing offensively. Teams cannot solely on the opposing pitchers to issue walks, so they can reach base. However, the Dodgers do have the second-most walks in the major leagues. They also have the second-most home runs in the major leagues.
However, with the Dodgers’ pitching woes, the Dodgers need the greatest offense that they can get, particularly if Gomes can’t acquire pitching at the trading deadline.
Hernàndez can play anywhere, even though the Dodgers wouldn’t want him at shortstop frequently. Gomes and Andrew Friedman are analyzing the market and the Dodgers’ needs before they pull off trades to improve the team. They always like players who can perform at various positions, so they can have versatility.
Expect them to be more active in the market for another bat.
